Charles Edouard Guillame was the individual that discovered Invar and Elinvar, nope it isn't islands, but nickel based alloys that will withstand magnetic fields allowing an eye fixed to keep accurate. Other alloy-based materials have Glucydur and Nivarox that have been popular by watchmakers while in the 1950's.Besides using alloys, another method of producing non-magnetic watches is by using a nicely conductive material to accommodate the movement from a case.
As mentioned previously it was subsequently Vacheron Constantin that first developed these watches; in 1915 they introduced the initial anti-magnetic pocket watch. That it was then and Tissot's non-magnetic wristwatch in 1920, therefore the first anti-magnetic chronograph by Vacheron Constantin in 1954.
